As a new dad I didn’t know what to expect. But after 18 months of practice I’m pretty sure I’ve got many things down pat. Here are 5 things I could not do without.
5. – Books - My favorite one for prepping for fatherhood was The Expectant Father. Allison gave me this book and it was perfect.
4. – The Baby Sherpa - This backpack diaper bag was a life saver when Eva was little, I could put on the backpack and carry everything we needed, it worked great on the planes too when we would travel back and forth to Florida with Eva. I loved this so much that I got one for my boss when she had twins.
3. – Fisher-Price Healthy Care Booster Seat - We took Eva everywhere and she was a bit small for the regular high chairs so we got this. Taking Eva to different restaurants was so easy when we used this booster seat.
2. – Digital SLR - Capturing ever moment of Eva’s 1st year was very important to me and having a DSLR was key to capture the action. We now have so many incredible memories captured digitally to keep forever.
1. – Sense of Humor - So many fun things have happened both before and after we had Eva. Without an ability to find the funny we would have gone crazy.

What a great list post. :) I did mine about unusual art forms. Seems kind of dry but it was my best idea at the time.
When I was looking after my nephew one of the best things I kept around were a change of clothes. Never know when he would decide to get into something a little too deep. Or we would find a place he could go swimming. Now he is 13 and still getting into messes and will not wear a coat.

The must have gear changes as they grow older, but sense of humor is the most important Must Have no matter what the age.

You are so right. Those items were great when Eva was younger, she’s outgrown the booster and sits in a regular high chair at the restaurants. But a sense of humor is a must all the time.

I love the topics in your list. Made me remember when my babies were that age. They grow so fast! Maintain your sense of humor when it comes time to teach your gorgeous daughter the beauty of mathematics!

I would say some good friends to get to a bar with when you are allowed out from time to time would also be very important :)

That would be great if I drank. I gave up drinking when I learned I had type II diabetes. I drink once a year at the Jimmy Buffett Concert. That day, all bets are off.

You really have everything down to pat with these nifty gadget to help you out during your little one's early years. Parenthood may be nerve-wrecking, but it surely is worth every second of it every time you see your little angel smile.

I found that having the ability to tell a good story was a huge asset. Funny thing though, the story never seemed to end… LOL. It kept them coming back for more!
